wonho first debuted in a 4-member project group called nuboyz under the stage name shino with shownu and jooheon (of monsta x) and solo artist #gun in 2014.
in december 2014, wonho began competing in the mnet survival show no.mercy. he became the fourth member selected for starship entertainment's new boy group in the finale and later debuted as a vocalist and dancer with monsta x on 14 may 2015.
over the years, he has written, produced, and composed many songs for monsta x. two of his self-composed songs charted on billboard world digital songs chart: from zero (#1), neol hada (#5).
while in the group he completed 3 world tours and won various awards. wanting to repay fans for their immense international success, monsta x released an english language album in february 2020. although he was no longer in the group by this time, his voice remains on the album.
wonho exited monsta x on 31 october 2019 after a series of cyber attacks. his contract with starship entertainment was terminated on 1 november 2019 due to false allegations. he signed with highline entertainment, a subsidiary of starship entertainment as a solo artist on 14 april 2020.
